“The Thing Remastered Surprises Fans with a New Trailer, Celebrating 22 Years of Survival Horror Evolution”
The Thing: Remastered – Available NOW | Nightdive Studios – YouTube
The Thing Remastered, a refreshed version of the cult classic survival horror shooter from 22 years ago, is now available thanks to the renowned retro remake specialists at Nightdive Studios.
It’s worth mentioning that the release was hinted at prior to its official announcement at the PC Gaming Show, but we won’t focus on that for now. The game is currently launched on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam, GOG, and Humble. What excitement!
A new trailer has also been released alongside the game’s launch, showcasing its graphic and performance enhancements. Since this is a remaster rather than a remake, the core gameplay remains largely the same, but the PS2-era fog has been eliminated, and players can now experience 4K resolution and “up to 120 FPS.” All platforms will also benefit from enhanced lighting, objects, textures, and animations.
If you’re unfamiliar with the original 2002 game, it unfolds after the events of the 1982 John Carpenter classic horror film of the same name, placing you in the role of Special Forces soldier Captain Blake, dispatched to investigate the Antarctic base where numerous horrifying events unfolded in the movie. Captain Blake quickly realizes he really wishes the characters in the film had finished off the titular shape-shifting alien when he arrives.
Nightdive revealed the remaster back in June without a specific release date, which is why we have this pleasant surprise today.
