After its digital debut at the end of 2024, The Thing: Remastered will be released physically for PS5 and Switch on June 25. The devoted and highly acclaimed remake of the 2002 cult classic is now available for preorder at major retailers. The Thing: Remastered follows the growing trend of remasters and collections by offering two distinct editions. Fans can preorder the game standalone for $30 or opt for the $50 Deluxe Edition, which includes a steelbook case and various other collectibles.

The Thing: Remastered is a third-person survival shooter featuring 20 levels packed with monsters. Along with numerous quality-of-life enhancements and new achievements, it boasts improved textures and animations—PS5 users can experience it in 4K resolution at up to 120 fps.

Other recent and forthcoming titles with similar physical releases include Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, and Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind.

Our review of The Ingredient: Remastered rated it a 6/10, applauding the enhancements in the gameplay. The graphics also received a significant makeover, making the 23-year-old title look impressive on modern consoles. The visual improvements combined with the eerie soundtrack create a tense and disturbing atmosphere. That said, the combat mechanics are somewhat repetitive, but if you’re in the mood for a straightforward PS2-era shooter, The Ingredient: Remastered is worth experiencing.

If you’d prefer to watch the film first before diving into the game, Amazon offers the original horror classic on 4K Blu-ray for under $20. Along with 4K and 1080p Blu-ray discs, the 4K release includes commentary from director John Carpenter and actor Kurt Russell, as well as outtakes and a theatrical trailer. You may also want to grab the Blu-ray of the prequel, released in 2011 under the same name, and The Ingredient From Another World (1951). If you have no problem with DVDs, The Ingredient 3-Movie Collection offers all three films for just $10.
