The Final Curtain: Friday The 13th Game Goes Offline One Year After Xbox Store Removal

Celebrating its end

In a period where server closures and store shutdowns are becoming all too common, another Xbox multiplayer game has met its demise this week. Exactly a year after the publisher Gun Media removed the game from all major digital platforms, Friday the 13th: The Game has officially gone offline for its dedicated players just before the New Year.

Indeed, back in 2023, the team announced the game’s forthcoming demise; at that time, they mentioned that the servers could remain operational until “at least December 31st, 2024”. Unfortunately, that date has now passed – and Friday the 13th’s servers are confirmed as closed.

Nonetheless, what remained of the game’s online community did have a memorable moment earlier this week. Shared on social media just a few days ago, fans were seen joyfully “dancing” on Jason’s grave – just before the title went offline across Xbox and all other platforms.

*Warning for headphone users, these gatherings can be quite loud.

Friday the 13th: The Game was initially launched on Xbox One in 2017, providing competition to the multiplayer horror game Dead by Daylight at that time. The latter, with its abundant array of chilling crossovers, ultimately outlasted Jason and his companions. All we can say now is, R.I.P. Friday the 13th, your quirky charm will definitely be missed.
