Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector remains the outstanding video game in the franchise for the near future, yet the successful indie’s developer intends to transform it into a TTRPG inspired by the series’ roots.
This insight comes from Citizen Sleeper’s creator, Damian Martin, who recently spoke with Eurogamer about the future of the series following the release of Citizen Sleeper 2 on January 31 for PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and Game Pass.
When asked if Citizen Sleeper 2 marks the end of the narrative, Martin responded, “I believe it [does] for video games. I’ll leave myself an exit somewhere that I can sneak through and resurrect it.” This is because Martin feels “really content” with how the sequel concludes, and he hopes players can find some closure from it.
However, it’s not completely finished for his popular sci-fi saga centered on interstellar capitalism. Citizen Sleeper is a game that revolves around dice rolls, clicks, and narrative choices heavily influenced by tabletop gaming; thus, Martin’s “next major project” will be a “full Citizen Sleeper tabletop game.” All he needs now is “to discover the perfect collaborator.”
Nevertheless, it is a significant chapter to turn the page on. Over on Real Twitter, Martin shared a screenshot of his Citizen Sleeper duology along with his previous title In Other Waters, reflecting that he was “Reflecting on 7 years of my life… it’s been a journey.” This certainly highlights how long these projects can take.
The story isn’t over yet, however. Upon release, Citizen Sleeper 2 will adopt a Mass Effect approach, allowing you to take your favorite crewmates on missions purely for the story, “best squad” be damned.
