Mortality, taxes, and game delays–these seem to be the three certainties in 2025, with a plethora of high-profile games postponed beyond their original release dates. Many of these have been shifted far past their planned dates, while others have only recently been postponed.
To help keep everything organized, we have now compiled a list of every game delayed right now, including those with announcements made weeks, months, and even years ago. Once a game has launched, it will be removed from this list.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows
It is uncommon for a delay to surprise us these days, yet Ubisoft succeeded in doing so with Assassin’s Creed Shadows–the franchise typically manages to meet its intended launch dates, but this title is a different story. It was initially pushed from 2024 to February, before landing on a March 20, 2025 release date.
Soup Pot
Everyone knows that soup tastes better when allowed to simmer longer, and Chikon Club’s Soup Pot will embody that philosophy–originally set for release in August, the game will now debut on Xbox platforms and PC later this year to give the developers additional time for refinement. You’ll likely be streaming your cooking adventures in-game to create over 100 different dishes.
Crimson Desert
Initially revealed with a gameplay trailer in 2020 and scheduled for a 2021 launch, the open-world spin-off of Black Desert Online, Crimson Desert, is now expected to arrive in late 2025.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Initially planned for a release this March, the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was postponed to an unspecified future date back in February. Ubisoft mentioned the desire to create a remake that still feels modern while being true to the essence of the original version, but did not clarify the length of the delay. The franchise has largely been dormant since Assassin’s Creed surged in popularity over a decade ago, although we did receive the delightful The Lost Crown spin-off recently.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
A title steeped in controversy and development issues, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has experienced numerous delays. It was initially slated to launch back in 2020 but was subsequently postponed significantly as development changed hands. It is now expected to launch in 2025.
Pragmata
A mysterious, Death Stranding-like title from Capcom, Pragmata was originally not set to debut until 2022. However, that window has since closed, with the publisher announcing the game will instead be released in 2023. No specific reason was provided for the delay other than the intention to deliver a superior experience.
Replaced
The upcoming sci-fi platformer Replaced was initially intended for a 2022 release, but was then delayed to 2023, later to 2024, and now to 2025. The decision to push the game back to 2023 was made by the developers at Sad Cat Studios alongside Coatsink and Thunderful as the studio has team members located in both Belarus and Ukraine. Given the ongoing conflict, the team chose to relocate and had to pause development throughout this period. The second and third delays appear to be related to game quality as the team continues development.
Arc Raiders
A cooperative shooter developed by a team of former Battlefield designers, Arc Raiders was previously slated for release in 2022. Nevertheless, Embark Studios announced in August a delay to 2023 to “enhance the experience, and allow it…
to achieve its utmost potential.” By 2025, it will no longer be peaceful.
The Wolf Among Us 2
Ark 2 and Ark: Survival Ascended
now debut in 2024. Developer Studio Wildcard stated that this delay was essential to “provide the ultimate next-gen dinosaur survival experience.” No gameplay images will be shared in 2023, consisting of the pre-rendered showcase trailer that featured Vin Diesel.
The remade version of the original game—Ark: Survival Ascended—was also hit with a delay, now set for release in October 2023. Studio Wildcard cited difficulties with Unreal Engine 5 and did not offer a firm release date.
Hollow Knight: Silksong
chosen to postpone the window to an unspecified date in order to make the game as polished as possible.
Phasmophobia (consoles)
Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster
Cities: Skylines 2 (consoles)
development team indicated that they needed more time to “meet the quality objectives” they had established for the console.
No Rest For The Wicked
company has chosen to delay the game into FY 2025, pushing its release date to April 2024 at the earliest.
The Thaumaturge
Prison Architect 2
reschedule the game for September 3, 2024. However, it may also be delayed indefinitely, as the team has indicated they need to address certain aspects before launch.
Earthblade
Little Nightmares III
The highly anticipated sequel, Little Nightmares III, is no longer set to release in 2024. Developer Supermassive Games and publisher Bandai Namco Europe indicated they wish to focus on quality, opting to delay the game until 2025.
Lost Records: Bloom & Rage
Never forget where you came from, even if you happen to be among the most acclaimed adventure game developers globally. Don’t Nod has delayed the launch of Lost Records: Bloom & Rage to provide Life is Strange: Double Exposure–which Don’t Nod did not create–a better window to shine without competition. Consequently, Lost Records is now scheduled for 2025.
Avowed
Obsidian’s action-RPG Avowed carries great expectations–both as a testament to the studio’s AAA fantasy skills while we await The Elder Scrolls 6 and as the next installment in the Pillars of Eternity series. However, fans will need to wait a bit longer for its release, as Microsoft has decided to push back the launch to February 18, 2025, to give the Holiday 2024 lineup some breathing room.
Demonschool
Originally set to launch in September, Demonschool, a tactical RPG, has also been delayed, now expected to arrive in 2025. Developer Necrosoft Games noted that the delay is “for the benefit of the game and the team.” The team added that “delaying allows us to enhance the energy and vibrancy of the world, making it more engaging, aside from the demon-smashing, of course.”
Tales of the Shire
The forthcoming Lord of the Rings game, Tales of the Shire, was scheduled for release in 2024, but developer Weta Workshop announced just ahead of the planned launch that it is shifting to early 2025. The studio stated it wanted to ensure it is “everything you’re hoping for,” leading to the delay. The game will now be released on March 25, 2025.
HunterxHunter NenxImpact
Developer Eighting Co. has confirmed that HunterxHunter NenxImpact, a fighting game set in the anime’s universe, will not be arriving in 2024. A new, unspecified release date has been set for 2025 to allow the development team time to implement rollback netcode, a highly requested feature in many online fighting games.
The Alters
Initially slated for release in 2024, the upcoming sci-fi survival game The Alters is now set for 2025. This announcement came from developer 11 Bit Studios, which stated they want to “optimize all mission-critical systems to ensure that every aspect of your experience is as seamless as possible.”
Broken Arrow
Slitherine and Steel Balalaika have chosen to postpone the launch for Broken Arrow from 2024 to an unspecified future date in 2025. This decision was made to allow for further stabilization of multiplayer features and ensure compatibility across various hardware configurations.
Cabernet
The vampire-themed game Cabernet would have been a great match for the spooky season, but the development team feels the game is “not in a state [it feels] accurately represents Cabernet and the effort this team has put into it.” As a result, it is now set to release in 2025 on PC and consoles.
Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion
The gory chaos will arrive a bit later than initially expected. Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion has been postponed to 2025, with the development team providing a vague “improving game quality” reason for the delay.
John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando
The first-person shooter John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando–created in collaboration with the renowned filmmaker–will no longer arrive in 2024. The game is now expected to launch no earlier than April 2025.
MIO: Memories In Orbit
Forever Skies
Currently available in Steam Early Access, Forever Skies was originally scheduled for its full release in 2024. However, the development team has decided to postpone the launch to 2025 to enhance various aspects of the game, including progression and world design.
Baby Steps
“Accidental Tripping Simulator,” Baby Steps, is now set to launch in 2025 instead of the previously planned 2024. This announcement was made during the Devolver Delayed Awards in late November.
Stick it to the Stickman
Stick it to the Stickman also faced a delay, having its release pushed to 2025, as revealed during the Devolver Delayed 2024 event.
Skate Story
Skate Story was officially postponed at the Devolver Delayed 2024 event. This unique skate-action game, featuring demonic elements, is now expected to release in 2025, though a specific date has yet to be announced.
Commandos: Origins
The highly awaited comeback of the Commandos series will have to be eagerly anticipated for a bit longer. Kalypso Media has decided to reschedule the game’s release to March 2025. Feedback from the latest demo w
