The Authenticity of Modern Swap 2 Leaks: Unveiling the Truth Behind the Reports
Pleasure-Con drift may potentially be eliminated.
Nintendo’s upcoming console is set to be named Swap 2, will include magnetic Pleasure-Con controllers, and is expected to launch in January.
This information primarily stems from a recent report by The Verge, following discussions with an anonymous Reddit tipster who claims to have acquired a finalized version of the Swap 2 console along with its docking station.
The internet has been filled with speculations and leaks regarding the new console recently, particularly from case manufacturer Dbrand and a Reddit user named NextHandheld, who The Verge has also been in contact with. The tipster remarked, “I’ve now seen enough to reasonably believe they might be credible,” according to the report.
NextHandheld was able to present The Verge with two images of a potential Swap 2 dock and one showing the inner part of a possible controller rail (displaying certification logos and exposed copper contacts), which also features a metallic U-shaped kickstand.
The dock showcased the same emblem as the Nintendo Swap but included a “2,” seemingly verifying that Swap 2 could indeed be the official title. NextHandheld’s source suggests an announcement regarding the console will be made in January.
The image of the controller rail indicates a rumor that the Pleasure-Con controllers will attach magnetically to the console, with NextHandheld asserting there will be a physical magnetic click when they are connected. A subsequent button will then power on the controllers.
Moreover, NextHandheld claims the controllers could have magnetic Hall effect joysticks, which do not suffer from the deteriorating sensor material of the current Swap model and can be recalibrated effortlessly. This could signal the end of Pleasure-Con drift.
Lastly, it is said that the Swap 2 will debut in a dark gray color, with a white variation to follow, as well as a special edition themed around a specific Nintendo game. However, they acknowledge that they couldn’t demonstrate the console or play any games yet, indicating there is much we still do not know.
For example, although Nintendo has officially confirmed backwards compatibility for the new console, it remains unclear whether this will include physical cartridges or be restricted to digital-only formats.
Swap 2 accessories have already been made available at the beginning of the month through Chinese retailers.
