Terraria’s next replace is delayed because dev will “now no longer force anyone to crunch for an arbitrary closing date”

Terraria Developers Prioritize Well-Being Over Deadlines in Latest Update Delay

“I apologize for the delay on this one, but it will definitely be worth it.”

Re-Logic has indicated that there may be “no possibility” of us seeing Terraria 1.4.5 launched this year.

In an extensive update on the official forums, Ted “Loki” Murphy mentioned that while the team was approaching the end of their respective task lists, year-end releases are “loaded with challenges” due to the holiday season and people taking early leave. Therefore, he will not “pressure anyone on our team or anyone else’s team to crunch”.

“The efforts towards finalizing the lists from each developer are drawing to a close, which indicates considerable progress,” wrote Murphy. “That said, we are fairly confident that we will not see Terraria 1.4.5 released this year.”

“To make a long story short, year-end releases (especially when trying to synchronize launch across PC, Mobile, and Console simultaneously on a global scale) are filled with risks due to holiday cycles, people leaving early for vacations, and various other factors. The hope was that we could address these issues before the year-end chaos, but that might not be accurate.”

“We also will not compel anyone on our team or anyone else’s team to crunch for what would essentially be an arbitrary deadline,” Murphy emphasized. “So, that means the next Terraria update is projected to move into 2025.”

Recognizing that the news “may not be welcome by many,” Murphy added that Re-Logic “is dedicated to being a quality-first studio, so we will take the necessary time for each update to feel ‘just right’… and we believe that once the update is released, everyone will value the time and effort put into it.”

“I apologize for this one taking quite some time, but it will certainly be rewarding.”
