Sunderfolk release date and extra offered at Dreamhaven showcase hosted by The Game Awards
Cooperative video games and innovative collaborations from the former Blizzard executive.
Dreamhaven has showcased a range of upcoming projects at its presentation during The Game Awards, including the announcement of its tabletop-inspired adventure, Sunderfolk.
The company was founded by former Blizzard executive Mike Morhaime in 2020, known for his contributions to World of Warcraft, and includes other former employees across its two studios.
The standout reveal was the scheduled release date of April 23, 2025, for Sunderfolk, developed by studio Secret Door, available on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch.
In addition to being released on PC and consoles, players will utilize a mobile application instead of a standard controller to interact with the game. The intention is to emulate a tabletop adventure in a more accessible and user-friendly manner.
“As avid fans of tabletop gaming, we at Secret Door understand how challenging it can be to gather new players for a shared experience. Learning the rules, perceived complications, and setup times can hinder gameplay with friends and family,” stated Chris Sigaty, head of studio at Secret Door. “Our aim with Sunderfolk is to use modern technology to ensure game night is enjoyable for everyone.”
“At its essence, Sunderfolk is about the joy of playing together—laughter, strategy, and creating lasting memories,” added Morhaime. “Similar to the tabletop games that inspired it, Sunderfolk fosters strong connections among friends and family with every session.”
I had a hands-on experience with Sunderfolk at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) and was quite impressed by its blend of public and personal gameplay that encourages collaboration.
Dreamhaven’s other studio, Moonshot Games, has introduced Wildgate, a team-based first-person shooter set in space. With both games, Dreamhaven is ticking both fantasy and sci-fi boxes, offering collaborative experiences.
As “Prospectors,” players will navigate space in search of ancient relics to extract, engaging in tactical spaceship combat and on-foot skirmishes with a comedic flair. A preview playtest is set to occur from April 10th to 14th, prior to a launch later in the year on Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
“Wildgate promotes teamwork and strategic skill in a way that aligns with Dreamhaven’s mission to unite players and help them forge lasting memories,” stated Morhaime. “Since each match of Wildgate is unique, there’s plenty for you and your friends to discover while exploring the Typhon Reach. Ship-to-ship combat adds an element of chaos that makes for a particularly enjoyable time, and we can’t wait for players to experience it themselves during the playtest.”
Additionally, Dreamhaven is collaborating with two other studios on supporting projects.
The first is Lynked: Banner of the Spark in partnership with developer FuzzyBot. Currently in early access on Steam, the
