Studio Fizbin’s Final Chapter: The Arrival of Reignbreaker Marks the End of an Era
Without any additional tasks on the table, the CEO mentions that Fizbin had to “make this tough choice.”
Studio Fizbin has confirmed that its forthcoming game, Reignbreaker, will mark its conclusion.
In a statement discovered by Game Developer, founder and CEO Alexander Pieper stated, “every magic show has its finale, and after 14 years of dedication, Studio Fizbin will be ceasing operations this spring (Q2) following the release of Reignbreaker.”
“The gaming industry is currently facing significant challenges, and we’ve been impacted just like many other remarkable studios in recent months,” Pieper expressed. “Our parent company Thunderful decided to considerably reduce internal development in November 2024, which, as Thunderful’s CEO Martin indicated in the latest quarterly report, also exerted an effect on Studio Fizbin.”
“Since then, we have been seeking various avenues to engage in after the completion of Reignbreaker. Unfortunately, none of these initiatives will materialize, leading us to arrive at this difficult conclusion.”
“This signifies that Reignbreaker will be Studio Fizbin’s ultimate game. We are confident it will be the best title we’ve ever produced, and our fantastic team will be devoted to launching it on March 18 while also providing post-launch assistance.”
After the release, Pieper stated that the studio’s main focus will likely be on delivering one of the top games you can imagine and enhancing the “incredibly talented team in finding new possibilities in the industry.”
“We want to extend our deepest gratitude to our team – those who have remained until the end, and the many others who have embarked on new journeys along the way. Fizbin and its creations are defined by its team members, and you all made this the most inspiring environment to perform the world’s most challenging magic trick: creating games.”
Reignbreaker is set to launch on March 18, 2025.
Thunderful acquired the Germany-based developer Studio Fizbin through its subsidiary Headup for an undisclosed amount in 2023.
Best known for its 2021 title Say No! More, the developer is also recognized for its puzzle platformer Minute of Islands, which was released in the same year.
In just the first two months of 2025, nearly 1200 developers have lost their jobs, with layoffs and closures at Freejam, Splash Damage, Piranha Games, Jar of Sparks, Ubisoft, ProbablyMonsters, Iron Galaxy, Sumo Group, Liquid Sword.
