GSC Game World has launched the significant patch for Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, which addresses over 1800 elements and improvements to the game’s A-Life system.

Additionally, the game has now recouped its costs and has turned into profitable, according to the studio’s founder Maxim Krippa during an interview with Forbes. Krippa also confirmed plans for at least two expansions and multiplayer features, though no further details were provided.

The developer indicates that Patch 1.1 is “significant” and may take some time to fully implement. It includes A-Life adjustments, AI upgrades, balance tweaks, crash corrections, and performance enhancements, along with issues related to specific narrative missions, among other updates.

A-Life is the game’s system designed to make NPCs behave organically. An FAQ from the studio states: “The A-Life 2.0 system ensures that the Zone has its own dynamics, independent of player actions. The game environment is continuously evolving. Mutants, stalkers, bandits, and other inhabitants of the Zone navigate, hunt, compete for territory, or form alliances.”

The system had faced criticism from players for feeling overly scripted and not sufficiently organic. A multitude of fixes have now been applied, increasing the frequency with which players encounter wandering NPCs, refining NPC navigation, enhancing their territorial behavior and engagement in combat, along with other adjustments.

Further minor AI improvements have also been implemented for both NPCs and adversaries.

Moreover, several missions have received enhanced rewards, a previously limitless cash exploit has been rectified, performance has been boosted in densely populated areas, and much more.

“Thank you immensely for your support and feedback,” the notes state. “We will continue to enhance the game, taking your comments and reviews into account to identify and resolve any potential issues as swiftly as possible.”

At its release in November, Stalker 2 faced criticism regarding its performance issues.

However, in an interview with Eurogamer, GSC Game World’s CEO Ievgen Grygorovych explained that delaying the game was not an option.

“You’re so exhausted that you would just break if you suggest running another marathon,” acknowledged Grygorovych. “We didn’t have the option to say let’s extend; we only had the option to push through until this moment – the release.
