Stalker 2: A Record-Breaking Launch with One Million Copies Sold in Just 48 Hours
Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl has sold 1,000,000 copies globally. Developer GSC Game World disclosed the information on X and stated that a greater number of players have downloaded the game via Xbox Game Pass.
“This is merely the beginning of our remarkable journey. The Heart of Chornobyl resonates more powerfully with each of us,” commented the Ukrainian studio. “Thank you, Stalkers.”
The survival shooter has received mixed feedback, with some reviewers praising the game despite noticeable performance issues, while others expressed concern over the various bugs.
GSC Game World acknowledged these “rough spots” in a statement released earlier this week, yet emphasized that it has never launched a title of this magnitude before and is committed to issuing fixes.
“We’re fully dedicated to being present, listening to your feedback, and swiftly addressing any problems that require our attention,” reads the post. “In the initial days following release, we’ll be deploying hotfixes as accurately as possible and as frequently as we can. Following that, we’ll transition to more substantial updates that will feature ongoing enhancements.”
Stalker 2 was created in a conflict zone
It shouldn’t be overlooked that launching Stalker 2 was an accomplishment in its own right. GSC Game World has been developing the game in a conflict zone amidst Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. In 2022, the company demonstrated resilience after Russia began its assault on the country.
“As of today, the Russian Federation has officially declared war on Ukraine. Our nation awoke to the sounds of explosions and gunfire, but is prepared to defend its liberty and independence, for it remains strong and poised for anything,” stated the studio at the time.
“The future is uncertain, but we remain optimistic, are confident in our armed forces, and believe in Ukraine. We therefore reach out to all our colleagues in the gaming industry. Players, bloggers, or anyone else who sees this message in their feed: share this, do not remain indifferent, and assist those in need.”
