“A simple one to advocate”
South of Midnight is now officially available in early access, and alongside the reviews that emerged yesterday, the tech experts at Digital Foundry have been examining the Xbox Series X and S versions to see how they compare.
Overall, they are both genuinely impressive! It’s highlighted that you’re receiving a near-flawless 60FPS experience on both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and even though the Series S operates at a lower resolution, the visual differences are otherwise minimal.
“The differing resolutions influence depth of field, and shadow quality seems to have been slightly reduced on Series S, but other graphical settings are consistent between the two consoles.”
You can check out some of the side-by-side footage of South of Midnight on Xbox Series X and S above, and yes – there is really not much to complain about regarding the Series S version at first glance. Great news for Series S owners!
We will leave you with a few of Digital Foundry’s concluding remarks about the Xbox performance of South of Midnight, and don’t forget that if you’re not interested in purchasing early access, the Xbox Game Pass version will be available on Tuesday, April 8th.
“Achieving 60fps on both Series X and Series S isn’t something to overlook, with an excellent single-player experience that offers a great combination of fidelity and performance. The game’s frame-rate performance is consistent, aside from a few streaming hiccups early on, with rarer sub-60 drops during combat and some frame pacing discrepancies. The one significant drawback for Series S is the resolution drop, but it still performs admirably considering its 4TF capability. All of which makes South of Midnight an easy recommendation right from the start…”
