Sony Shuts Down Live Service Initiatives by Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games
Neither studio will be closed, though it remains uncertain if this decision will result in job cuts.
Sony has announced the cancellation of two unannounced live service projects from Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games.
According to a report by Bloomberg, a spokesperson indicated that the projects were terminated “following a recent review.” They emphasized that PlayStation remains committed to developing online and single-player titles.
“Bend and Bluepoint are exceptionally talented teams who are respected members of the PlayStation Studios family, and we are collaborating closely with each studio to identify what their next projects will be,” the spokesperson remarked.
Neither studio will be shut down, but it is unclear how this decision will impact employees and if job reductions will occur.
In a memo reviewed by Bloomberg, Sony conveyed it’s “working closely with Bend and Bluepoint” and “plans to do everything possible to ensure minimal operational disruption.”
Bend Studio has been a first-party developer for Sony since 2000 and is renowned for its work on the Days Gone franchise.
Bluepoint Games was acquired by Sony in 2021 as a first-party studio specializing in remasters and remakes, including
