Sonic’s cinematic journey began as a disaster, but it quickly turned around when the creative team behind the original live-action film modified his design. It has since evolved into three full films, and following the release of Sonic 3 late last month, this franchise has recently achieved another monumental box office milestone.

According to Box Office Mojo data (via Reddit), the Sonic 3 film has now grossed approximately $280 million globally. When combined with previous earnings from the franchise (approximately $320 million for Sonic in 2020 and $405 million for Sonic 2 in 2022), this astonishingly propels it into the billion-dollar movie franchise territory!

The third film has been well-received by audiences so far, and Paramount has already reportedly secured a fourth film. Even more exciting is the news that Jim Carrey is “open to the idea” of reprising his role as Robotnik in future Sonic films.

Have you played a role in the triumph of Sonic’s live-action movies? Have you seen the third film yet? Let us know in the comments.
