Is anyone surprised?

We’re just one day away from the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film — featuring Shadow the Hedgehog joining the beloved franchise — releasing in theaters globally. However, Variety reports that Paramount Pictures has already approved a fourth film.
Nervous? No, not us. According to the report, the film is targeting a Spring 2027 release. We don’t have any further details yet, but since director Jeff Fowler has been involved in the first three films, it wouldn’t shock us if he is also confirmed for a fourth project.
The franchise — which has also given rise to a Paramount Plus series featuring Knuckles — has been box office successes, with the first two films alone earning $725.2 million at the box office. We expect the third installment to follow suit — it’s already projected to earn between $55 million and $60 million in the US this weekend.
Moreover, the critics have been quite favorable toward the third movie; it holds an average score of 61 on Metacritic, and 86% on Rotten Tomatoes.
In the third installment of Sonic, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are back to confront a new antagonist — Shadow the Hedgehog, portrayed by Keanu Reeves. This also leads to an alliance with Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik, who throughout the film reunites with his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik.
We don’t have any tiny details about the plot of the fourth movie, but there are currently spoilers circulating for the upcoming third installment, and if we had to speculate, we think these might be connected to Sonic’s fourth adventure.
Will you be watching the Sonic movie this weekend? Let us know in the comments.
