Five golden RINGS
As we approach the middle of December, do you realize what is just around the corner? That’s right, it’s almost time for Christmas Day the theatrical release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3!
Before the blue hedgehog hits the big screen for the third time on December 20th, Paramount Pictures is brightening up the holiday season with festive promotions, including the aforementioned short, ‘A Very Sonic Christmas’.
This holiday short (and it is indeed brief at just two minutes long) features Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles stepping up to save Christmas after old Santa suffers an injury. Sure, it’s charming enough and we have a feeling the catchy original song playing in the background will be stuck in our minds for the rest of the day, but the real treasure here is the storyline that feels reminiscent of a classic Rankin/Bass animated feature. Think stop-motion Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer meets Sonic? Sounds like a fun ride.
As if that’s not enough holiday spirit, Paramount has also unveiled a series of new ‘Sonic 3’ posters inspired by iconic Christmas film designs. Shared on Twitter by CinemaBlend, the official Sonic the Hedgehog account, Fandango, IGN, Cinemark Theatres, IMDb, Regal, Cinépolis, and DiscussingFilm accounts, these delightful posters parody everything from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, to Love Actually, to Scrooged. We’ve compiled a gallery of the festive designs below:
And finally (finally), Paramount also revealed that they were giving away a special ‘Ugly Sonic Sweater’ just in time for Christmas. Although the giveaway has now concluded, the studio shared a video showcasing the sweater in all its *ahem* splendor. Probably better that we missed out on this one, to be honest.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be speeding into theaters worldwide starting on December 20th. You can check out the first impressions from a recent preview screening in our roundup below.
