Marvel Snap was rendered unavailable in the United States shortly after the TikTok prohibition came into effect on January 19. This was likely due to the game’s publisher, Nuverse, being owned at the time of its launch by TikTok’s parent company, Bytedance. Nevertheless, TikTok has since returned online, whereas Marvel Snap is still not accessible.
“Regrettably, Marvel Snap is currently unavailable in U.S. app stores and cannot be played in the United States. This situation has taken us by surprise and was not anticipated,” said Marvel Snap developer 2nd Dinner. “Marvel Snap is here to stay. We’re diligently working to restore the game as soon as we can and will keep you updated when we have more information.”
In less than 24 hours after its prohibition in the U.S., TikTok has resumed its services. As of today, however, Marvel Snap remains inaccessible for U.S. players. It is uncertain when or if the game will return online.
Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the TikTok ban, leading the app to suspend its services in the country. Bytedance previously divested from Nuverse in 2023, making it unclear why Marvel Snap went offline in the U.S. or if this was a deliberate action.
Marvel Snap has been successful both critically and commercially. The free-to-play card game reportedly generated 2 million in revenue during its first week after launch. In GameSpot’s Marvel Snap review, we remarked, “Marvel Snap is a beautifully simple and innovative take on digital CCGs that highlights adaptability and creativity.”
