Skate: Prepping for the Ultimate Playtest Experience

After four and a half years since its announcement, EA’s free-to-play skating simulation, Skate, is finally set for playtesting on consoles.

Early participants who enrolled in the Skate Insider program are indeed receiving invitations to partake in the playtest and “contribute to shaping the future of the game”.

Don’t fret if you haven’t been chosen yet—the team is “invit[ing] new players who are registered as we proceed” and is still actively seeking testers. If you’re interested in getting involved, make sure to visit the official site and express your enthusiasm.

When the developer Pudgy Circle first shared insights about its new Skate project—which is officially titled Skate, instead of Skate 4—back in 2022, the studio clarified that it was not “a sequel”, nor “a remake, a reboot, [or] a prequel”. Rather, it was characterized as an “original evolution” of the series intended to reflect “where skateboarding and gaming exist in the real world”.

Skate is set to be available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC (including Steam), and mobile devices when it launches for early access later this year—about 15 years after the release of Skate 3. It will likely feature cross-play and cross-progression support.
