ININ Games announced last week that it has officially acquired the publishing rights to Shenmue III, the long-anticipated third installment in the beloved Dreamcast series. Here at Nintendo Life, this has ignited our excitement for the future of the franchise — especially since none of the games have appeared on the Switch yet. Now, ININ Games has shared a survey on social media, inviting fans to respond to “a few questions about Shenmue III.”

While the survey, which you can access right here, includes inquiries such as “What’s your favorite moment in the entire Shenmue series?” and “What visual and performance enhancements would you like to see for Shenmue III?”, there is one significant question that captured our attention:

“On which platform would you prefer to see Shenmue III?” The options include Switch, Xbox Series, PS5, and Mac. Currently, the game is only available on PS4 and Windows, but we know what to anticipate, folks.

“Please consider completing it if you’re a fan of Ryo’s adventures or just familiar with the game,” ININ Games posted on X, adding, “Your feedback will be crucial to us, as always!”

The survey is simply a request for opinions, clearly, but it is evident that ININ Games is making moves to do something with Shenmue. Unfortunately, they do not own the rights to the first two games (which are held by Sega), yet we would love to see the entire series on the Switch (or its successor), so we remain hopeful.

Shenmue III picks up Ryo Hazuki’s story immediately from the conclusion of Shenmue II, despite the nearly 20-year gap between releases. Ryo is still on a path of vengeance against his father’s killer while unraveling the mysteries surrounding the Phoenix Mirror. Upon its release, the third game received mixed reviews, but it is undeniably committed to the iconic duo’s legacy.

Do you want Shenmue III on Switch? Would you prefer waiting for the Switch 2? Let us know in the comments.
