“We’re exploring possibilities”

Xbox Game Pass has proven to be a significant triumph for Microsoft, leading numerous gaming companies to launch similar Netflix-style subscription models.
It appears SEGA might soon join this trend, as company president Shuji Utsumi recently informed the BBC that the iconic Japanese developer and publisher known for Sonic the Hedgehog finds subscription services “very appealing” and is “exploring some opportunities”.
Shuji Utsumi: “We’re contemplating something – and engaging in discussions – that we cannot reveal at this moment…”
Xbox paved the way for subscription gaming through Xbox Live, leading to the creation of Game Pass, with companies like Sony, Nintendo, and others such as EA and Ubisoft following suit with their own offerings – granting access to games and much more.
Microsoft’s subscription service also includes another company’s offering through EA Play, suggesting that if SEGA were to initiate a similar service, it could possibly integrate into various tiers.
Earlier this month, SEGA removed several classic titles from the Xbox digital storefront along with other platforms.
