Scarlett Johansson is truthfully done with the MCU, although some fans are unwilling to accept it. In a recent interview, the actress reiterated (once more) that her Black Widow will not be returning. Ever.

“Natasha is dead. She is dead. She’s dead. Okay?,” she stated in an interview with InStyle, leaving no space for discussion.

“They simply don’t want to accept it,” Johansson remarked, addressing Marvel fans. “They’re like, ‘But she could return!’ Look, I believe the balance of the entire universe rests in her hands. We must accept it and move on. She saved the world. Let her have her moment as a hero.”

Indeed, Natasha Romanoff perished as a hero in Avengers: Endgame when she sacrificed herself to acquire the Soul Stone, which was essential to reversing the consequences of Thanos’ snap.

Zoe Saldaña’s Gamora was killed in that same scenario on Vormir during the events of Avengers: Infinity War, but the character was later brought back from an alternate timeline. It doesn’t appear that anything like that will occur with Natasha, as Scarlett Johansson is clearly not open to the idea of reinstating her role.

“I’m finished. That chapter is closed. I accomplished all that I needed to do. Additionally, returning to portray a character repeatedly, over a decade’s time, is such a unique journey,” she shared with MCU co-star Gwyneth Paltrow on her episode of the Goop Podcast in 2023.

With her MCU chapter definitively concluded, the Oscar-nominated star is embarking on another legendary franchise this summer. Johansson stars alongside Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali in Jurassic World: Rebirth, a new installment in the Jurassic Park series set five years after Jurassic World Dominion.
