SAG-AFTRA elements contemporary agreements to enable contributors to work with college students and recreation jams

SAG-AFTRA – the union representing 160,000 actors, voiceover talents, and moderately about a media experts – has announced two new agreements to facilitate collaboration with university students and game jams.

The Student Interactive Waiver Agreement and the Game Jam Waiver Agreement provide game developers “at all career stages, the chance to collaborate with union performers, even amidst the ongoing video game strike.”

The former applies to university students currently enrolled in game development programs at accredited educational institutions and working on a project “entirely” in the US, “offering an opportunity for students to collaborate with SAG-AFTRA performers to meet course objectives during game creation.”

The latter applies to developers involved in game jams. As long as the project doesn’t include materials recorded prior to the game’s conclusion, participants are permitted to collaborate with SAG-AFTRA performers with session fees and residual payments deferred, provided the project does not generate revenue.

SAG-AFTRA stated that in situations where a game jam project does generate income, they will “collaborate with participants to sign the project under the appropriate agreement.”

With these new agreements, SAG-AFTRA is able to support game developers at every level who are eager to work with union talent and are interested in learning more about creating games under a union contract,” said SAG-AFTRA national executive director and chief negotiator, Duncan Crabtree-Ireland.

“Furthermore, our members are deeply passionate about a
