Manufacturing updates appear to have been revealed
The Zelda live-action movie has confirmed a March 26, 2027 release date this week, along with some new information (including speculation about a trilogy).
According to Production List – a service that tracks film and television productions, The Legend of Zelda movie is set to be filmed in New Zealand from November 4, 2025, to April 7, 2026. As you may already know, New Zealand’s film industry was behind Peter Jackson’s fantasy film trilogy The Lord of the Rings.
This same source has also provided a general plot outline for the Zelda film, depicting a “young hero” named Link who must undertake a quest to safeguard Hyrule from Ganon, who is in pursuit of the Triforce that can bestow “unlimited power.” If you’ve ever played a Zelda game, this premise will likely sound very familiar to you.
“This live-action adaptation of the video game series, ‘The Legend of Zelda,’ follows Link, a young hero destined to defend the enchanted kingdom of Hyrule from evil forces. The realm is under siege by Ganon, a merciless warlord seeking the Triforce—an ancient artifact believed to offer boundless power. To thwart him, Link must embark on a dangerous journey, facing monstrous foes, navigating perilous dungeons, and solving complex puzzles to discover sacred relics that can assist him on his adventure.”
update from Daniel Richtman (known for his film scoops), who states that the casting for Link, Zelda, Ganon, and Impa has already been completed, with other roles expected to be finalized by August of this year.
Perhaps the most intriguing part, this same source indicates that the main actors have been secured to film three movies (also known as a trilogy) over the next six years. However, keep in mind that there is no official confirmation regarding this yet, so it remains merely speculation for the time being.
The Zelda film was first announced in November 2023 and is being co-produced and distributed by Sony. It is set to be directed by Wes Ball (Maze Runner trilogy, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) and produced by Avi Arad (Spider-Man)
