Before Avowed makes its Xbox Game Pass debut early next year in February, the latest wave of previews for this anticipated action-RPG has now gone live.

According to this recent showcase, the general agreement seems to be that it’s looking quite promising at the moment – with most outlets and reviewers praising the game and expressing their eagerness to get their hands on the full version. Here’s a glimpse of what’s being said so far…

Starting with our friends at VGC, who mentioned that they “can’t wait to experience more”:

“When our brief session with Avowed concluded, we felt disappointed. Not because of what we had played, but rather because we sensed the game starting to captivate us. Avowed feels like a title that would have been perfect for the period between Christmas and New Year. I do wonder how many will share this sentiment, but it won’t matter if I’m completely alone — I’m still quite convinced after two previews and two interviews that Avowed’s going to be one of my favorite games of 2025.”

Kotaku also believes it could already be “one of the best games of 2025”:

Avowed feels solid, profound, and vastly well-crafted. This game has “labor of love” emanating from every aspect, and if it can deliver a story as compelling as those found in the Pillars of Eternity titles, we could be looking at an all-time classic.”

In IGN‘s preview, it described Avowed as “a lot of fun” and highlighted it as a refreshing contrast to Dragon Age: The Veilguard – allowing players to be as “villainous” as they wish:

“Having just tried out Dragon Age: The Veilguard, I was thrilled to discover just how malevolent I could be towards the characters I encountered from the very start of Avowed – something Veilguard simply didn’t satisfy. Right off the bat, I had one NPC throwing profanity at me because I was leaving her in prison. Shortly after, a pair tried to intimidate me on a bridge – only to meet a swift end. I wasn’t in the mood for their nonsense. I just wanted to be evil. And while I could have handled it more kindly, sometimes being villainous is…
