Freejam Bids Farewell: The End of the Robocraft 2 Journey

By on January 10, 2025 0 2 Views

Freejam, the studio that brought us the 2 Robocraft games and CardLife, is shutting down. In a statement on its Discord server (noted by TechRaptor), it cited “current market conditions” and server expenses that encouraged the development of Robocraft 2, which was released as an Early Access title in November 2023.

“We simply can’t launch or maintain development,” Freejam explained. In the coming weeks, both Robocraft titles and CardLife will be discontinued. RoboCraft 2 has already been removed from Steam, while at the time of writing, the original game and CardLife are still available on the platform.

The week in industry layoffs

This signifies the first major studio closure of 2025. Earlier this week, it was reported that layoffs had affected Rocksteady at the end of last year, and further reductions are anticipated at Splash Damage, which recently canceled Transformers Reactivate. Jar of Sparks, a NetEase studio founded in 2022, has paused its operations to seek a new publisher for its debut project.

“Freejam has been like family to us, and [the players] have been an integral part of that,” the studio noted. “Your feedback and insights have always propelled us forward, but more than that, the community’s enthusiasm is a huge part of what made working [here] so enjoyable.”

“On behalf of all of us here, thank you immensely for being part of this journey.”
