Roblox CEO on runt one security concerns: ‘At the same time as it is seemingly you’ll well perhaps be now not contented, don’t let your younger other folks be on Roblox’

Roblox CEO and co-founder Dave Baszucki has urged parents to keep their young ones off the popular gaming platform if they have concerns about safety.

In an interview with BBC News about the platform’s widely-discussed issues related to child safety, Baszucki stated that the company is proactive in tackling instances of harmful behavior but advised parents to consider withdrawing their children from Roblox if they harbor substantial worries.

“My primary message would be, if you’re feeling uneasy, do not allow your kids to engage with Roblox,” he told the BBC. “That might seem somewhat counterintuitive, but I always have faith in parents to make informed choices.”

Roblox noted that it had 68.4 million daily active users in 2023. The company reported that 21 percent of these users were typically 9 years old or younger, another 21 percent were between 9 and 12 years old, while 16 percent fell in the 13 to 16 age range.

This indicates that 58 percent of Roblox’s yearly user base in 2023 was 16 years old or younger.

Roblox has frequently faced criticism over a perceived deficiency in safeguarding measures for younger players. In October 2024, the firm dismissed a report released by research firm Hindenburg accusing it of inflating user statistics and minimizing concerns regarding child safety.

Months prior, Bloomberg reported on a “pedophile issue” within Roblox after interviewing 20 current and former employees who asserted that the company was struggling to effectively prevent predatory behavior.

Shortly after these reports were released, Roblox implemented new child safety measures—including enhanced parental controls—to limit access to certain age-restricted experiences and to prevent users under 13 from engaging in chat functionalities.

In its latest financial report, Roblox emphasized that “trust and safety” remains a core focus and highlighted the introduction of 40 security products and policies in 2024 aimed at providing caregivers and parents with “control and clarity.” The company plans to include additional security measures in 2025.

However, the BBC claims that it was able to circumvent some security measures to exchange messages between two fake accounts (aged 15 and 27, respectively) and suggest moving conversations to another platform and playing more adult-oriented games.

The publication explained that Roblox’s filters initially flagged some of these exchanges, but users found ways to rephrase those requests to avoid detection.

Baszucki expressed that the aforementioned incident showcased how Roblox’s security features function effectively to protect young players—mainly because the BBC had to suggest engaging in prohibited behaviors off-platform.
