Revolt Unveils Updated Terms of Service to Address Off-Platform Conduct and Habits

Riot Games has cautioned its content creator team that conduct occurring outside its platforms related to its franchises is now subject to its terms of service.

In essence, this indicates that the studio may impose penalties for inappropriate actions during livestreams featuring games like League of Legends and Valorant through in-game consequences.

“If you say or do things that violate our Terms of Service while streaming or creating content about our games, we can restrict your access to Riot accounts (and suspend your Partner privileges if you are part of our Partner Program),” states a post on the Riot Games website.

“While we aren’t going to actively monitor all activities across social media, we now have the authority to impose penalties in-game when that content is brought to our attention. For instance, if a creator uses hateful language directed at an opponent or teammate in their stream but not in the game over chat or voice communications, we can still impose a penalty as if that behavior had occurred in-game.”

Riot noted that its updated terms of service will solely apply to content surrounding its titles, but emphasized that this may also encompass actions that undermine the competitive integrity of Riot products such as stream sniping and dubious promotions.

“If a creator is endorsed by a boosting service, promotes methods for players to buy and sell accounts, or engages in any activity that encourages players to violate our rules, we may suspend the access to Riot accounts,” the post continues. “This may occur officially, via sponsored posts on social media, videos, or streams, or simply in informal discussions that take place during content creation.”

Riot added that creators who breach its terms of service in particularly severe ways may face Riot-wide bans. “Misconduct in one game may result in repercussions across all of our games,” stated the company.
