Verdansk is making a return to Call of Duty Warzone, but enthusiasts desire more than just the map; they yearn for all the original mechanics to come back as well.

The original Warzone map, Verdansk, will be available once again on April 3, just after the game’s fifth anniversary. This information was revealed last year, and now we have a new cinematic trailer showcasing soldiers parachuting into the wooded outskirts of the iconic city, set to the melody of Nat King Cole’s “Unforgettable.” It’s an enjoyable trailer that brings back all those memories of teaming up with friends during the pandemic.

The map was altered just over a year after the game was released, during the Destruction of Verdansk event that concluded with the map being obliterated. We may have then journeyed back to the ’80s for Verdansk ’84, but it simply isn’t quite the same.

Many supporters are thrilled about Verdansk’s return. I recently wrote about how Battlefield 6’s trailer indicates a longing for a return to simpler times in shooters, and this reaction merely validates my sentiments. People do not only desire the visuals of Verdansk; they wish the core Warzone experience back.

“Honestly, just launch the Warzone 1 server; the map isn’t the only thing we cherished. We admired the mechanics and the straightforwardness,” writes one commenter. “We don’t merely want Verdansk to return. We want everything back. The movement, the mechanics, the visuals, the sounds, the vehicles. We want the original Warzone—the game that kept us awake all night,” echoes another.

Fortnite reintroduced its OG mode as a permanent feature, so there’s a chance Warzone might do the same, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
