Metroid Prime Remastered is currently priced at an excellent $30 (originally $40) at Walmart, but we wouldn’t expect this deal to last long. The 25% price reduction represents the lowest price for this remarkable enhanced version of the GameCube classic. Walmart offered this bargain a few weeks ago, and it sold out quickly, but now you may have another opportunity to grab this rare deal. Even after more than two years since its release, Prime Remastered tends to remain at full price. With Metroid Prime 4: Echoes anticipated to launch sometime this year, it’s a great moment to revisit or experience the Retro Studios series for the first time.
Prime Remastered is presently out of stock on Amazon and is listed at its standard price of $40 at Best Buy and Target. We wouldn’t expect this deal to be available for long, so pick up a copy while you can.
Notwithstanding its title, Metroid Prime Remastered is more akin to a remake—one that is thoroughly dedicated to the original. The extraterrestrial ruins and landscapes of Tallon IV have been meticulously reconstructed with impressive new assets and high-definition textures that not only align with the original game’s artistic direction but also enhance its overall ambiance. The gameplay and level architecture remain true to the original, except for a few welcomed enhancements, such as updated control options. This includes a modernized control scheme that reflects the standard layouts found in most first-person shooters, which many players are familiar with—though the classic control method and gyro-based aiming are also available.
While these improvements make Metroid Prime Remastered the ultimate way to experience the game, they also emphasize how timeless the original core gameplay remains. As Steven Dunkley mentions in our Metroid Prime Remastered review, “It’s an experience that has matured like fine wine, and is just as captivating today as it was two decades ago.”
This Metroid Prime Remastered offering serves as a great entry point for new players, yet those already familiar with the game can anticipate more Metroid Prime releases slated for this year. Most notably, Metroid Prime 4: Echoes is the full-fledged sequel, but there’s also the upcoming Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective artbook launching on June 24. This hardcover book will feature illustrations and concept art from the original Metroid Prime trilogy and the latest Metroid Prime Remastered, along with insights from Kensuke Tanabe and members of the Retro Studios design team. You can find preorders available on Amazon.
Nintendo also has an official Metroid Prime 2026 wall calendar available for preorder. Though it’s labeled as a 2026 calendar, it also contains a 2025 planner section, so you might not need to wait until next year to put it to use.
As 2025 approaches, it looks to be a significant year for Metroid Prime, with the entire series garnering some well-deserved attention over the past few years. The latest title in the mainline side-scrolling series, Metroid Dread, marked the first all-new entry in over 19 years when it debuted on Switch in 2021. If you haven’t had a chance to play it yet, it is currently available for $51 on Amazon. You could also pair it with the Metroid Dread Amiibo 2-Pack, featuring figures of Samus Aran and the E.M.M.I. robot, for $23 (was $30). For those looking to revisit earlier titles in the series, complete access to the original Metroid NES, SNES, Game Boy, and Game Boy Advance games is available via the Nintendo Switch Online service.
