Resident Inappropriate 6 ESRB Rating Noticed Ahead Of Xbox Developer Order

“Resident Inappropriate 6: Intriguing ESRB Label Spotted Prior to Xbox Developer Event”

Could this possibly be the “legendary Japanese IP”?

Today, a new ESRB rating for Resident Evil 6 has been discovered online, indicating that Capcom’s 2012 Xbox 360 game might be preparing for another release in some capacity. It’s important to note that the Japanese developer hasn’t introduced a new version of RE6 in any form recently – so the true reason for this rating remains somewhat unclear.

What we do know is that the rating, issued by the US gaming ratings board, is for Resident Evil 6 on Xbox Series X|S. As of this writing, this game is only available on Xbox 360 and Xbox One – the latter being playable through backwards compatibility on Microsoft’s current-generation Xbox systems.

Given that Capcom hasn’t revealed anything regarding RE6 on Xbox Series consoles, we would be astonished if this signifies a contemporary Resi remake akin to 2023’s Resident Evil 4. It could also be a more straightforward port similar to the Xbox One release, but considering Resident Evil 5 isn’t mentioned here, we are left confused about what this rating actually pertains to.

Moreover, one additional twist to this tale is the Xbox Developer Direct later this week. This title is by no means confirmed for the showcase or anything, yet we have heard whispers that Microsoft’s surprise game for the showcase is “a new installment in a legendary Japanese IP with decades of history”. Resident Evil definitely fits this description, as we mentioned in a separate article today, and the timing of this is rather coincidental – although we still believe an RE appearance is unlikely.

In any case, we suppose we will just have to wait and see what transpires with both the Xbox Developer Direct and this enigmatic new version of Resident Evil 6. Regarding the Xbox showcase itself, we will know exactly what has been unveiled by the end of the day on Thursday, January 23rd.
