Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake is a tremendous success. The developer has confirmed that the 2023 title has sold 9 million copies, with estimates suggesting it is the fastest-selling Resident Evil game ever.
Industry analyst Alex Aniel stated (via SI) that sales at this stage position the Resident Evil 4 remake as the “undoubtedly, the quickest-selling Resident Evil to date.” Capcom reported that the game had surpassed 8 million copies sold by mid-October 2024, indicating that sales during the holiday season boosted the total beyond 9 million.
Resident Evil 4 (2023) has sold 9 million copies as of December 19, 2024 đŸ˜®
This implies RE4 sold no less than 1 million copies in the last quarter (October 1 through December 31), marking the game’s eighth quarter total.
This establishes RE4, by a significant margin, the fastest selling RE ever. https://t.co/S7q7afU8aV— Alex Aniel (@cvxfreak) January 6, 2025
Resident Evil is by far Capcom’s largest franchise in terms of sales volume, with total sales exceeding 163 million units. The next closest franchise is Monster Hunter (105 million).
The 2019 Resident Evil 2 remains the highest-selling Resident Evil game ever, with 14.5 million copies sold, followed by Resident Evil 7 (14 million), Resident Evil Village (10.5 million), Resident Evil 5 (9.4 million), Resident Evil 6 (9.3 million), and Resident Evil 3 (9.2 million). Capcom’s website section listing all its best-selling games has not yet been updated with the latest Resident Evil 4 remake sales—it still shows 8 million sales—but it will likely rank No. 10 overall with 9 million sales.
The original 2005 Resident Evil 4, on the other hand, sold 2.3 million copies.
