Action-packed video games no longer induce neck cramps and create killers the way a lot of people seem to believe, but they are undeniably common in the gaming industry. According to Fallout’s creator Tim Cain, there is a clear reason behind this.

“When you examine the top 50 or top 100 [most played games] on Steam,” Cain mentions in a specific YouTube video analyzing the topic of violent RPGs, “you notice a significant number of action-focused, violence-oriented games. Companies create these because they sell, not merely because they want to.”

Currently, Steam’s 11th most played title – positioned between Call of Duty (firearms) and World of Tanks (armored vehicles) – is the free-to-play clicker game Banana, where players simply click on a banana. Nevertheless, Cain points out that non-violent games, whether they involve peelable fruit, thriving gardens, or guiding Sims in romantic encounters, are the exception rather than the norm.

“That’s why I always encourage people to ‘vote with their wallets,'” Cain states. “If you believe you’re just one small voice – if enough individuals do this, those small contributions can create a significant impact, and companies will take notice.”

“It’s simply one of those matters where you must set boundaries, and everyone establishes them differently, and I understand that,” Cain adds. “Your financial circumstances may differ, or your local options could vary based on where you live. I understand that. But if you don’t establish a boundary because you think it won’t have any effect, you’re essentially ensuring it won’t.”

While violent video games continue to prosper, let’s not forget thatthe charming farming simulator Stardew Valley has sold over 41 million copies as of now, with more than half on PC and nearly 8 million on the Switch.
