What would Superman fundamentally be without Lois Lane? It’s a question we thankfully won’t have to ponder, considering that James Gunn has found his ideal match to portray them in his forthcoming film. As David Corenswet wears the cape and iconic hair curl, Rachel Brosnahan can look up to the sky as the Daily Planet’s leading journalist, and she’s thrilled for what lies ahead.

In a conversation with Deadline regarding the upcoming film, Brosnahan confidently states that there’s no better time than now for the Man of Tomorrow to reclaim his place today. “We’re living in a time of great upheaval, both domestically and internationally,” expressed the former star of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. “There are countless challenges for everyone in various parts of the world at this moment. And despite many of the criticisms regarding superhero films, at their essence, they are about the goodness in humanity and how wonderful we can be to one another, how the pursuit of truth and justice truly represents the American ideal, and that courage and hope can guide us through.”

So far, what has been revealed has given fans little to complain about (aside from that viral clip of Superman flying that even Gunn had to address). Corenswet’s portrayal of Kal-El appears to be drawing inspiration from the classic depiction of the hero, which the former director of Guardians of the Galaxy confirmed will strike a balance between the Silver Age comic book aesthetics and contemporary storytelling. In the meantime, Brosnahan assured, “It’s a hopeful superhero movie, which I believe is so true to the comics. So, I’m eager for audiences to check it out and hopefully have some fun and enjoy the journey with us.”

However, just like Corenswet follows in the superpowered footsteps of stars like Henry Cavill, Brandon Routh, and the legendary Christopher Reeve from director Richard Donner’s iconic series, his co-star will face the same challenge stepping into the legendary shoes of Lois Lane that came before her. “I mean, I grew up adoring the Donner Superman films, the Chris Reeve Superman films, and Margot Kidder. She’s simply a dream. So, I was definitely intimidated to take on this role, but I’m excited.”
