PTW, a support studio recognized for its work on Exoprimal and Mortal Kombat 1, has established its fifth American location at 22 job site in Charleston, South Carolina.
The launch of this new studio, which makes PTW the first gaming development studio in the area, is anticipated to be a “significant milestone” for the local gaming development community. In its press release, PTW outlined its intention to create a multitude of local job opportunities over the coming years by “capitalizing on Charleston’s dynamic tech landscape and the abundance of local talent it possesses.”
PTW Charleston will likely be led by Bernhard Rieder, who will report to the VP of U.S. operations, Sebastien Bisch. In the announcement, Bisch emphasized the necessity of having “an in-house QA solution to better support our U.S.-based partners. […] We’re thrilled to establish a center of excellence for the industry within the vibrant Charleston community, and we are eager to develop a new flagship studio in the U.S.”
PTW’s year of technological and geographic expansion
Similar to other studios throughout 2024, PTW has experienced its share of ups and downs. At the start of the year, it laid off forty-five developers across its global teams. These layoffs were the company’s only cuts in a year otherwise filled with growth and acquisitions.
Earlier in May, PTW inaugurated a mocap studio in London, which expanded its existing partnership with Imaginarium Studios. The studio was established to provide simultaneous full-body capture and voice recording, a service that PTW claims is not commonly available in a mocap facility. More recently, its $13 million purchase of co-development studio Ghostpunch in August was finalized earlier this week. This acquisition will enable PTW to deliver AI-driven services to its clients related to artistic capabilities and integration, as well as QA automation.
