EXODUS Gameplay Trailer: ‘The Traveler’s Creed’ – YouTube
Exodus, the inaugural game from a team of BioWare veterans at Archetype Games, has unveiled a new gameplay trailer showcasing the third-person combat mechanics.
Archetype first revealed Exodus just over a year ago at The Game Awards 2023. The studio is steered by BioWare veteran James Ohlen, who was the original Dungeon Master for the pen-and-paper campaign that birthed the Baldur’s Gate series. He also served as designer on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and game director on Star Wars: The Old Republic, remaining with BioWare until 2018.
The new Exodus gameplay trailer, overflowing with Mass Effect aesthetics, features our striking protagonist navigating a variety of environments using a grappling hook while battling aliens and a type of gigantic, armored grizzly bear. The combat appears to be a straightforward blend of third-person shooting and melee fighting, yet it seems enjoyable enough.
The narrative unfolds in a universe where humanity has escaped a dying Earth only to find itself struggling to survive in a hostile alien galaxy. It may feature branching story paths that lead to different endings based on player decisions, which should resonate with fans of the developers’ previous titles. While everyone is aware that Mass Effect 5 is officially in development at BioWare, Exodus certainly feels like a spiritual successor to the franchise, which suggests that fans of narrative-driven sci-fi RPGs are in for a treat.
