Amazon has commenced canceling preorders for the Nintendo 3DS edition of Mighty No. 9, a game that was initially released nearly a decade ago. Created by Comcept and former Capcom producer Keiji Inafune, Mighty No. 9 was presented as a spiritual successor to Mega Man.
According to a BlueSky user, Amazon UK notified them that their preorder for Mighty No. 9 on Nintendo 3DS was canceled due to a lack of availability. Interestingly, this individual made the order in 2022, suggesting that people were still able to preorder this version of Mighty No. 9 years after it was released on other platforms.
Mighty No. 9 was funded via Kickstarter and became one of the most notorious funding campaigns in video game history. The 3DS and PS Vita versions were introduced as stretch goals for the campaign if it reached $3.5 million, which it ultimately achieved.
Mighty No. 9 launched in 2016 for PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. However, it appears that the 3DS and Vita editions will never come to light. Inafune has since transitioned to other projects, including Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, which is scheduled for release sometime in 2025.
In GameSpot’s Mighty No. 9 review, they stated, “For a game that is meant to carry the legacy of a classic series, Mighty No. 9 barely succeeds. While it may spark excitement at times, it generally lacks a cohesive sense of artistry.”
