Poll: Box Artwork Brawl
Hello everyone, and welcome back to another edition of Box Artwork Brawl.
Last week, we examined Mario’s Picross for the Game Boy, and it was quite an intense competition between North America and Europe. In the end, Europe triumphed with 48% of the votes. North America followed closely in second with 40%, while Japan secured third place with 12%.
This week, in honor of its forthcoming release on NSO, we will look at Nobunaga’s Ambition for the SNES. This title has seen releases on several platforms, with the SNES iteration debuting in 1993 in both Japan and North America (sorry Europe, no competition for you this week).
With that in mind, yes, it’s another showdown this week, so buckle up and let’s get started.
Be sure to cast your votes in the poll below; but first, let’s take a look at the cover art designs themselves.
North America
Both covers share certain similarities; primarily, the standout artwork features Nobunaga in his recognizable Samurai armor. In this version, however, the colors are somewhat darker, and overall, it appears more sophisticated than its Japanese counterpart. That being said, the title itself comes off as slightly… underwhelming. It’s not awful, but it somewhat feels out of place, you know?
Japan
Japan’s edition, as expected, is presented in a portrait orientation, allowing us to appreciate more of that stunning Nobunaga artwork. In the corners, we also see pixel art illustrations of characters from the game, offering a nice contrast. Ultimately, the combination of gold and red in the Japanese text works exceptionally well together.
Thank you for voting! We’ll see you next time!
