Ys X Proud Nordics PS5

The souped-up revisit of 2024’s Ys X: Nordics is forgoing the PS5, confirmed publisher NIS America, and will instead debut on the expected Switch 2 plus PCs.

Back when developer Falcom unveiled Ys X: Proud Nordics late last year, the announcement drew significant backlash — particularly from western audiences who’d barely received the original on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

Falcom billed Proud Nordics as a “heavily revamped” take on the action-RPG at the time, prompting numerous critics to declare they’d boycott what they saw as questionable tactics.

Fast-forward about nine months, and Proud Nordics is officially set to reach western shores in early 2026 — yet, once more, it’s skipping PS5 entirely. Strange odyssey, isn’t it?

That said, we still wouldn’t wager against a possible PS5 port down the line; maybe NISA simply wants to ride the Switch 2 hype wave first.

Fancy telling us whether you were banking on Ys X: Proud Nordics sailing to PlayStation 5 after all? Weigh anchor again in the comment section down below.

Robert Ramsey

Robert (feel free to call him Rob) serves as deputy editor here at Push Square, and fell in love with PlayStation during the 1990s after Tekken 2 pulled him into the limitless realm of gaming. He’ll still spar if you challenge him, but role-playing games own his heart — from The Witcher, Persona and Dragon Quest to Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Trails and Tales, he’s explored them all. Some claim he’s overdone it, but the high adventure is worth it.
