Crystal Dynamics contracts once more

Crystal Dynamics, the studio presently developing a new Tomb Raider title, has revealed a series of layoffs impacting the organization.
This announcement emerged through a statement on the firm’s LinkedIn page, indicating nearly 30 positions have been eliminated “across multiple departments and initiatives” in an effort to “restructure the organization and operations for our upcoming generation”.
“To our gamers – as the realities of the industry keep transforming, we’ve made these tough decisions to enhance the ongoing development of our premier Tomb Raider title, whilst also configuring the studio to produce new games for the future.”
This marks the third occasion this year that Crystal Dynamics has terminated positions; as IGN reports, 17 employees were released in March, with additional jobs lost following Perfect Dark’s cancellation.
The developer is recognized for crafting a new installment in the Tomb Raider franchise, which is being overseen by Amazon, but regrettably, there are scant meaningful insights about the project at this stage. It’s uncertain how far along the initiative is.
Layoffs have become an alarmingly frequent event in the gaming sector over the past few years, with numerous instances from both large and small publishers and studios.
