And it’s gaining momentum

Recently, there have been several occasions where publishers have made full-price games obsolete.
The Crew stands out as a notable case: a game intended for online play, which had its servers closed in 2023.
This signifies that if you possess a physical edition on Blu-ray, it has become completely worthless, as you can no longer access it.
Stop Killing Games has been urging local authorities to cease this behavior, and the campaign is accelerating as it approaches its deadline of 31st July.
Currently, a remarkable 822,211 individuals have endorsed a petition requesting the European Union to implement new law against this practice.

The UK government has already deliberated on this matter in parliament, and arrived at the following conclusion:
“There are no intentions to revise UK consumer law regarding the disabling of video games. Sellers of games must comply with current consumer law requirements and we will persist in monitoring this issue.”
Nonetheless, the call for Britain’s legislators to reassess continues to gain traction, and the government may be compelled to revisit this topic in the upcoming future as a result.
PewDiePie, the iconic YouTuber, recently expressed his support for the petition, reinvigorating enthusiasm over the past few days:
“In the comments, I’ve noticed several of you mentioning ‘Stop Killing Games’ and I want to express: I 100% back this initiative. It aligns perfectly with what I discussed in my video – ownership over software and the games we purchase.”
If you wish to endorse the campaign, you can discover more about it on the official website here. Keep in mind, signing the petitions and sharing them with friends costs nothing, so please consider doing so if you care about the ownership of your games.
