Due to this month’s May the 4th festivities, the latest season in Fortnite, and the sophomore season of Andor, it appears that Star Wars enthusiasts are genuinely embracing the Force right now, choosing to revisit Star Wars Battlefront 2 in large numbers.
The multiplayer-centric game from 2017 is witnessing a notable revival, with player tracking graphs surging on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. SteamDB indicates that players started returning to the game shortly after the 4th of May, and it’s been escalating in popularity since. The PC version is peaking at just below 10,000 concurrent players, which is close to the game’s all-time peak player count from over four years ago.
It’s more challenging to monitor player numbers on consoles, but last week, Star Wars Battlefront 2 ranked as the 22nd most played game on the Xbox platform, whereas typically it doesn’t appear in the top 50. Meanwhile, on PlayStation, True Trophies monitors a select group of PS5, PS4 users, and the title made its way back into the top 40 charts last week.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 was a contentious release upon its initial launch years ago due to EA’s management of microtransactions. The game has since recuperated and now boasts a significantly enhanced reputation for outstanding multiplayer skirmishes in the Star Wars realm.
Although it’s no longer supported with fresh content, you can acquire the Celebration Edition of the PS4 game on offer for £8.74 / $9.99 until 4th June on the PS Store, if you’re keen to join the community returning to the title. It’s also included in the EA Play subscription service.
