Square Enix ‘Hard at Work’ on Kingdom Hearts 4, Even Though It Just Killed Another Game in the Series
Update []:
Square Enix has acknowledged your concerns regarding the scarcity of updates on Kingdom Hearts 4, and has taken action by unveiling fresh screenshots of the forthcoming PS5 title.
The visuals, released in a collage format on Instagram, showcase a revamped Sora model, battles against the Heartless, and what looks to be a playable Mickey Mouse.
Take a look at the images below:

“We’re diligently preparing Kingdom Hearts 4 and will steadfastly commit ourselves to the game’s development,” a statement notes. “Our aim is to craft an experience that meets your expectations!”
It further states: “We have witnessed your enthusiasm, and we are genuinely thankful from the depths of our hearts. We share your excitement and are eager to reveal more regarding Kingdom Hearts 4 when the moment is right. In the meantime, we appreciate your understanding.”
The character designs and settings look impressive, and it’s reassuring to see progress being made. However, it appears we may need to hold out a bit longer for a new trailer.
Original Story: It’s been more than six years since Kingdom Hearts 3, and it doesn’t seem like we’re any nearer to Kingdom Hearts 4, the latest entry in Square Enix’s distinctly anime Disney crossover.
For those who were hoping that GPS-enabled mobile Missing-Link would bridge the void in your heart, brace yourself for inevitable disappointment: the Japanese developer has decided to halt its development.
This move is part of a broader strategy by the company to enhance its output and release larger titles more swiftly. After over three years of development, it has concluded enough is enough.
“Despite our extensive efforts in developing and refining the game with the hope of pleasing many players, we realized it would be challenging to provide a service that would remain satisfactory over time, prompting our decision to cease development,” a statement mentions.
“The Kingdom Hearts saga will carry on. We are diligently working on Kingdom Hearts 4, and we appreciate your continued support as we keep you posted with further updates.”
Sadly, there has not been any indication of when Kingdom Hearts 4 will be released, but we are now anticipating it won’t arrive until at least 2027.
