By San Diego Studio expanding its team

Sony’s San Diego Studio, the creators of the MLB The Show series, appears ready to finally introduce the franchise to PC.
Many of you may be aware that MLB compelled PlayStation to diversify the franchise across additional platforms, leading to recent versions being accessible on Xbox and Switch.
However, given that the platform holder releases most of its exclusive titles on Steam anyway, a PC adaptation of MLB The Show has been noticeably missing for a considerable duration.
We speculate the developers didn’t wish to overwhelm themselves – they’ve been progressively enhancing their production process to incorporate extra systems as time has passed – and might have also been wary of cheating, especially considering their emphasis on the card-collecting Diamond Dynasty mode.
Nonetheless, it’s now gearing up to unveil its first “AAA PC title”.
A job advertisement for a Senior Graphics PC Programmer indicates:
“We are in search of a Senior PC Graphics Programmer to join our crew in advancing the visual and technical excellence of a AAA PC project. In this position, your duties will involve developing and optimizing real-time graphics systems explicitly for PC, guaranteeing solid performance and impressive visual quality across a broad spectrum of hardware configurations.”
The job announcement continues to outline a range of duties specifically pertaining to PC, such as “leveraging” platform-specific technologies from companies like NVIDIA and AMD.
Over the years, San Diego Studio has functioned as a support studio on various franchises like ModNation Racers and others – yet we must assume that, in this particular case, it’s discussing MLB The Show.
It will be fascinating to ascertain whether next year’s MLB The Show 26 is accessible on PC, or if it’s constructing the groundwork for MLB The Show 27 instead. We imagine it all hinges on the speed of their progress.
While it often lacks proper recognition and acclaim on platforms like this, MLB The Show is one of Sony’s top-selling franchises annually, and while it may not dominate the sports genre as it did during the PS3 period, it remains a reliably solid franchise overall.
A PC version will undoubtedly broaden its overall audience, further solidifying the property as a top seller.
Interestingly, there’s also been talk of a mobile variant as well, indicating that Sony genuinely aims to extend this franchise’s reach to all baseball enthusiasts in the US and beyond.
