Sony’s live-action cinematic interpretation of Horizon will commence filming in 2026, as the company is actively seeking to secure a director.
As per legal documents reviewed by The Game Post, the film possesses an operational script and is nearing the pre-production stage. The company aims for a release in 2027.
In a declaration made as part of the platform holder’s legal actions against Tencent, PS Productions head Asad Qizilbash remarked:
“We are in the process of developing a film inspired by Horizon in collaboration with Columbia Pictures. A working script has been established, and we are on the lookout for a director, aiming to film the project in 2026 and release it in 2027. The live-action movie follows the recent partnerships between Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions on the 2022 film Uncharted and the 2023 film Gran Turismo.”
PlayStation is taking legal action against Tencent concerning the imitation game Light of Motiram, which it labels as a “blatant copy”. They are currently working to demonstrate to the courts that the imitation has significantly harmed their own franchise.
The film is referenced because Sony is attempting to underscore the significance of Aloy to its enterprise, asserting she is a “brand icon”. The company contends that by featuring a similar main character, Light of Motiram creates confusion among consumers.
This legal case has already unveiled several more aspects of PlayStation’s operations, such as the fact that the organization traveled to China anticipating a proposal for a mobile adaptation of The Last of Us.
Instead, Tencent merely presented a concept for a Horizon project, which Sony claims subsequently evolved into Light of Motiram.
A Horizon film was officially revealed at CES earlier this year, yet this is the initial instance we’ve heard about its advancement.
Sony had earlier intended to produce a TV series based on the post-apocalyptic saga with Netflix, but this agreement fell through, prompting them to consider a film instead.
