Tresses Await

WayForward first tackled Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution way back in 2002 for the Game Boy Advance, meaning this direct follow-up to the Game Boy Color classic has been cooking for well over twenty years.
After surfacing on an actual GBA cartridge earlier this year, the adventure will soon appear on the far more convenient PS5 and PS4 on 19 August.
The standard asking price is $24.99, but anyone keen to drop an additional $10 can secure the Digital Deluxe Edition, which bundles the following bonus outfits:
- Relic Hunter Costume
- Boosts Pike Ball assaults.
- High Voltage Costume
- Amp ups Storm Puff strikes.
- Sizzle Armor Costume
- Turns up Fireball damage.
Keep in mind that pre-ordering the physical release via Limited Run Games tosses all three costumes straight onto the Blu-ray—a neat perk. Sales for boxed copies kick off on 8 August.
In true Shantae fashion, the project is a side-scrolling platformer packed with puzzles, secrets, and bountiful collectables. Expect shape-shifting belly dances galore and plenty of hidden upgrades—good, old-school design through and through!
The home-console release also introduces a local multiplayer battle arena, a gloriously nostalgic twist and a series-first.
The official synopsis reads:
“After two decades in development, Shantae returns in a 2D action-adventure! The dreaded pirate Risky Boots hatches a world-flipping scheme: rotate the continent so every town drifts to the shore for effortless looting. Play as Shantae to turn the tectonic tide, manipulating the terrain by twisting, swapping, and navigating layers on the fly. Hair-lash and shimmy your way through scrambled lands, misplaced villages, creature-packed crypts, and labyrinthine strongholds. Six beast transformations, towering boss fights, and four-player versus await!”
Still hungry for more Shantae? This entry looks built to satisfy that lingering GBA urge, although the day-one price tag might feel somewhat chunky for our wallets.
