MindsEye Layoffs

A possible revival attempt for MindsEye may be in the works, following the game’s poor debut on PS5 and additional platforms last month.

This information comes from a recent article by IGN, which provides a grim overview of the situation affecting developer Build A Rocket Boy.

Insiders report that roughly 300 staff members at the studio have received notifications indicating that their positions are presently in jeopardy. Further messages were reportedly sent to employees at PlayFusion as well — a firm that Build A Rocket Boy acquired in 2024.

Rumors regarding job cuts have circulated for several weeks, with the developer itself verifying that it was engaged in a layoff process in late June.

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of this report is that ex-Grand Theft Auto leader and Build A Rocket Boy CEO Leslie Benzies believes there is potential for a MindsEye “redemption arc”.

Insiders claim that Benzies communicated with employees just yesterday via video call, and “stressed” that the developer would “recover” with a “relaunch” of the critically received shooter.

Furthermore, Benzies allegedly reiterated that “internal and external sabotagers” were responsible for the game’s shortcomings, having previously hinted that individuals were being paid to disparage the title online.

It is undeniably a very unfortunate situation, and we can’t help but speculate what is actually ahead for MindsEye — especially if Build A Rocket Boy is poised to cut a substantial number of its personnel.

Perhaps a bit too much, some might argue.
