History recalls Street Racer did little to diminish the triumph of the Mario Kart series, yet in 1994 it was significantly promoted as a competitor to Nintendo’s racing game.

With an appealing cartoon style and combat dynamics reminiscent of, for instance, Street Fighter, this was a notably prominent game at the time.

Besides the SNES, it was also transitioned to the SEGA Genesis, PS1, SEGA Saturn, Game Boy, Amiga, PC, and others.

The Street Racer Collection, scheduled for release on PS5 and PS4 on 26th November, will showcase four of the previously mentioned editions of the game: SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, and MS-DOS.

Here’s how developer QUByte illustrates it:

“Merging the pace of an arcade racer with the combat of a fighting game, this cult classic made its impact with its uniqueness and its share of chaos and flair. Compete on tracks loaded with obstacles and wild environments (ranging from Mount Rushmore to Transylvania), utilize special abilities to eliminate your opponents, and delve into modes that extend well beyond standard racing.”

All the original modes and tracks are included, along with local multiplayer for up to four players in the SNES, Genesis, and MS-DOS editions. (The Game Boy version, of course, did not offer that feature.)

This title is certainly worth a glance if you’re a fan of those 16-bit racers from the SNES period, as it received decent reviews during its release.

Some reviewers even stated that the SNES version was superior to Super Mario Kart, which was incredibly high commendation at that time.
