You forfeit 22 games, you regain 10

It’s often said that situations may need to deteriorate prior to improvement; let’s hope that this is the case for PS Plus. Tuesday, May 20, 2025 presents a dual blow for the subscription service: 22 games are departing, and they’re being substituted with one of the service’s least favorable updates in recent years.
We disclosed this extensive list of PS Plus expiration dates last month, but the approaching removal is exacerbated by the scant selection of games set to take their place. Below is the list of 22 PS5, PS4, and even PS3 titles that will no longer be part of PS Plus Extra or PS Plus Premium come Tuesday, which means you will need to purchase them to keep playing:
- Grand Theft Auto V (PS5, PS4)
- MotoGP 24 (PS5, PS4)
- The Sims 4: Island Living (PS4)
- Resistance: Fall of Man (PS3)
- Resistance 2 (PS3)
- Walkabout Mini Golf (PSVR2)
- Synth Riders (PSVR2)
- Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord (PSVR2)
- Before Your Eyes (PSVR2)
- The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners (PSVR2)
- The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution (PSVR2)
- LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 (PS4)
- Stranded: Alien Dawn (PS5, PS4)
- The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame (PS5)
- Ghostrunner (PS5, PS4)
- Payday 2: Crimewave Edition (PS4)
- Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (PS4)
- Journey to the Savage Planet (PS5, PS4)
- Portal Knights (PS4)
- Enter the Gungeon (PS4)
- Batman: Arkham Knight (PS4)
- inFAMOUS: Second Son (PS4)
To make matters worse, for the two Resistance titles from the PS3 era, Sony is entirely removing the capability to play them on PS5 and PS4. Since they can solely be streamed through the Internet via the PS Plus Premium-exclusive service, they aren’t listed for purchase in the standard PS Store.
This is a perplexing decision, particularly since Insomniac is a first-party studio owned by PlayStation, eliminating the need for external arrangements. This is a completely in-house project, and removing these titles means the two Resistance games will only have been accessible on PS5 and PS4 for a mere six months.
The 22 games will be substituted with just 10 new offerings, resulting in a net reduction of 12 games on PS Plus starting Tuesday. Consequently, the subscription will provide a notably lesser value for users after the transition, and the new titles being introduced are not particularly high-caliber.
Sand Land and the brawler Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising both deliver decent experiences, as does the remastered S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Trilogy. Yet, there’s just one addition to PS Plus Premium: Battle Engine Aquila. No, we hadn’t heard of it either before Wednesday’s announcement.
It’s unfortunate timing for Sony to have such an extensive list of games departing while simultaneously introducing new titles that are less than 50 percent of the prior offerings. Let’s hope for a revival in June.
Liam has been navigating with a PlayStation controller since childhood and has a deep appreciation for Metal Gear Solid. These days, he enjoys exploring the latest PS5 titles while cheering for Derby County. That final detail is perhaps his Achilles’ heel.
