PS5 Puzzler Lumines Arise Is Looking Incredible in New Overview Video
It’s well-known that we’re enthusiastic supporters of Lumines here at Push Square Towers, and the forthcoming new installment, Lumines Arise, appears more impressive with each preview.
A recent video provides our most extensive insight into the puzzle game yet, exploring the various modes and functionalities it brings to the table. It also showcases several new levels/skins, but if you’re okay with glimpsing them before release, it’s definitely worth viewing:
The principal mode of the game is Journey, which is essentially the same single-player experience found in Tetris Effect. You navigate through over 35 stages, each featuring distinct music and stunning visuals that intertwine an abstract narrative of sorts.
Beyond that, there’s the more conventional Survival, where you progress through every stage consecutively without intervals, testing how long you can endure.
The Missions mode makes a return, providing dozens of training missions along with unique challenges to refine your Lumines abilities. Some of these evoke the enjoyable alternate modes discovered in Tetris Effect, so we’re quite pleased to see them.
Playlists allow you to select and organize which stages to engage with and in what sequence. It appears you will be able to craft multiple custom playlists tailored for specific moods or simply navigating through your favorites.
Loomiis are an advancement of the avatars featured in previous Lumines titles. These are significantly more customizable, giving you the opportunity to represent yourself in the game and its multiplayer hub with various cosmetics, along with banners, titles, and more.
The multiplayer hub is where you will encounter Burst Battle, a one-on-one mode available to sample in the demo. Additionally, there’s Quick Burst, where you strive to create the largest Burst possible.
In Leaderboard League, you’ll discover Time Attack modes that Lumines enthusiasts will recognize, challenging you to clear as many squares as you can within designated timeframes.
Additionally, there’s a mode called Dig Down; your goal is to clear the playfield downwards as more blocks appear from the bottom. It’s an intriguing survival/endurance mode that seems to be a true test of skill.
Finally, Loomii Live events will take place in the multiplayer zone every weekend, similar to Tetris Effect’s weekend gatherings. Players collaborate to accumulate points, unlocking rewards upon reaching the goal.
There’s a bit more information on all of this over at the PS Blog as well.
With all these modes, challenges, and features, Lumines Arise is shaping up to be the most all-encompassing game in the series to date.
