Sony has confirmed another round of price increases for the standard PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, and PlayStation 5 Pro in the United States. Effective on 21 August, the new price tags read as follows:
- PlayStation 5
- $549.99 ($50 more)
- PlayStation 5 Digital Edition
- $499.99 ($50 more)
- PlayStation 5 Pro
- $749.99 ($50 more)
Isabelle Tomatis, Sony VP, explained: “Like numerous multinational companies, we’re operating amid a challenging economic landscape and have therefore decided to elevate the recommended retail price of PlayStation 5 hardware in the United States beginning 21 August.”
This announcement simply continues the trend of PS5 hardware becoming pricier; regions such as the UK and Europe witnessed similar hikes earlier this year. In May, Sony openly acknowledged that further PS5 pricing adjustments were on the table, and the firm has now acted on that plan for the US market.
Chief Financial Officer Lin Tao previously revealed Sony was exploring ways to “transfer” newly introduced tariff costs, stemming from the Trump administration, directly to American buyers. Domestic PS5 production inside the U.S. was also under consideration.
This particular business memo leaves PS5 accessory pricing untouched. “We currently have no additional price revisions to share for any other territories,” Tomatis added.
